SIA AppChallenge 2018: Finalist
With the goal to redefine the travel experience with Singapore Airlines, It was a rather intersting topic which me and my friends as sophomores felt eager to tackle. Hence, we decided to form as a group of three. As the challenge allowed us to pick from three topics, namely the KriShop,in flight experience, and resource management. With a vision to enhance the logistic situation in SIA, we decided to go with resource management. As the competition consisted of many requirements, we spent a good day trying to understand the requirements, and got down to work. The challenge comprised of many stages, from submission of report, all the way to the finalist pitch.
The issue on hand was the large amount of logistics that Planes had while making the trips, across multiple holding areas and multiple planes , airports and etcetra. Hence, we decided to build a smart device that could track the amount of trays within a trolley, so that this information can be transmitted to the packing area, and they would be able to top up accordingly. By making use of ultrasensors, and the Raspberry Pi, we connected it to firebase. We also created the UI using Kivy inititally. To stand out from the crowd, we decided to actually built the prototype out, along with a video demo for our report.

After a couple of weeks, to our pleasant surprise, we were selected to be in the finalist and to present to the major ranks within SIA.
With the minimal viable product done, we began to finetune it, and make our pitchdeck. We also switched over from the python kivy application, to one using Django with D3 to allow for better visualisation for our application.
Although we did not win during the finalist pitch, it was a great experience, and the opportunity to present in front of hundreds of SIA employees, news reporters, along with people within the tech scene.
